Verified by Visa is enrolled in by cardholders to protect their card from being used by someone else to make online purchases. When a cardholder enrolls, they add an additional password to their account, if an online purchase is being made from a merchant that processes Verified by Visa and the password is incorrect, the transaction is declined, thus protecting the merchant from fraudulent chargebacks.
