What are these programs?

The Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode programs have been developed by Visa and MasterCard to combat fraud and limit the risk associated with conducting business over the web.

How do they work?

Cardholders can authenticate themselves during checkout with a PIN or password previously assigned to their card.  If the cardholder is not already enrolled in the programs with their bank, no PIN is required.

For the merchant, Visa provides automatic fraudulent chargeback blocking and guaranteed payment on all domestic and international consumer cards, even if the shopper does not have a PIN for their card.  MasterCard offers guaranteed payment on all international consumer transactions, as well as domestic transactions where a PIN is entered.

This guarantee against fraud translates into lower chargeback rates, the ability to process more sales without manually reviewing orders, and the opportunity to expand internationally without the risk of fraud.
